Creating a Geodatabase  for Tourism Industry in Pamir

The prototype GIS application of tourism infrastructure is expected to help tourism planners and developers, tour operators or tourism researchers, as well as tourists in their activities, and serve as the base for improving the tourism industry in region of Pamir and Central Asia in general.

The tourism infrastructure concept is based on the 4A’s (or sometimes also 6A’s) (Smith, 1994; Buhalis, 2000) and Tourism Product.  4 A's comprise: Attraction, accommodation, amenities and accessibility.

Tourism product consists of nucleus, inviolate belt and zone of closure.

  • Nucleus – Core of the attraction.

  • Inviolate belt – Space needed to set nuclear in a context.

  • Zone of closure – Desirable tourism infrastructure (transport, toilet, infrastructure…).

Gunn’s model of Tourist Attraction (Pearce, 1991).

Tourism infrastructure visulalized in ArcMap. Data was mainly collected from open data sources such as OpenStreetMap.
